Richard “Big Rich” Morant – Co-Founder & Label Manager, C-Note Music Group
A simple creative request — making a hot song to market an alcoholic drink called C-Note Vodka — sparked an idea that gave Richard Morant the name for his record label: C-Note Music Group. After all, as he puts it, “we’re all working for C-Notes.”
Although the label itself is new, Richard “Big Rich” Morant is far from new to the music game. His journey started in the 1980s in New York, where he first touched music as a DJ in high school. What began as a phase soon became a foundation — combining his natural love for music with his sharp instincts as a self-described “street dude” who knew how to manage business.
The turning point came in 1986, during a casual studio visit with a friend. What seemed like a normal day quickly opened the door to a new passion. Rich recognized that his gift for connecting the right people with the right opportunities wasn’t just valuable in business — it was a natural fit for managing artists and building careers.
A plumber by trade and a businessman by experience, Richard understands the importance of communication and relationships. He often compares managing artists to a marriage: built on trust, respect, and the ability to navigate challenges together. His philosophy is simple — the manager’s success only happens when the artist’s success happens.
Today, as co-founder and manager of C-Note Music Group, Rich focuses on paperwork, structure, and opportunities so that his artists can focus on creating. He secures producers, shows, partnerships, and ensures his roster is positioned for long-term stability and growth. His approach is hands-on, family-oriented, and built on loyalty — coaching artists not just to chase clout, but to build careers that last.
Currently guiding three signed artists and four producers, Rich sees potential not just in talent, but in coachability and belief. To him, the perfect artist is someone who believes in their manager as much as their manager believes in them. His roster reflects this vision: a Latin-English crossover artist, a bilingual R&B singer bringing a fresh voice to both Latin and English markets, and a rapper being guided away from gangsta rap into a more family-oriented, reality-driven lane that reflects the values of the label.
With family members in the industry, deep community ties, and the right connections across business and music, Richard “Big Rich” Morant is positioning C-Note Music Group for the next level: major distribution deals, national recognition, and eventually becoming a household name.
